Vada Daughtry makes a living by performing grief. As a professional mourner, she specializes in crafting heart-wrenching eulogies and shedding tears for strangers, a career that allows her to remain transient and keep her own traumatic past carefully buried. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she encounters Dominic Dunne, a charming bartender, during a fleeting, mojito-soaked night. She vanishes shortly after, leaving Dominic with nothing but questions. Months later, their paths collide again under heart-wrenching circumstances: Vada attends a funeral, only to discover the deceased is Dominic’s mother, Annabelle. To his fury, Vada is named in the estate, a move he is certain is a calculated con. However, the deceased has other plans. From beyond the grave, Annabelle begins haunting Vada, forcing her to complete a series of posthumous tasks in the coastal town of Shellport. Thrown together by a ghost with an agenda, Vada and Dominic must navigate a tense enemies-to-lovers dynamic. As they renovate a crumbling seaside cottage, the friction between them shifts into something deeper. Forced to confront their shared history and personal grief, they discover that sometimes the only way to move forward is to stop running from the past.
